What you need in the chemicals sector
- GHS01–GHS09 pictograms (explosive, flammable, oxidizing, gas, corrosive, toxic, irritant, CMR, hazardous to environment)
- H and P phrases taken straight from section 2 of the SDS
- Protective measures for splash protection, eye protection, acid-resistant gloves
- Behavior on acid/base burns, inhalation, eye contact
- First-aid immediate measures from section 4 of the SDS
- Disposal as special waste (AVV code) from section 13
Why chemical companies must pay special attention
Chemical operations typically use dozens to hundreds of hazardous substances. The activities require suitable instructions; group instructions may be appropriate where hazards and measures are comparable.
Keep operating instructions current and accessible to the employees concerned. Workplace approval and instruction remain the employer’s responsibility.
With MeineGBU you upload the safety data sheet (e.g. from BASF, Henkel, Sigma-Aldrich, Würth) – the AI uses substance information to prepare a draft for review. You add activity and PPE, print the Word file and post it at the workplace.
MeineGBU prepares an editable DOCX draft on the MeineGBU platform. The SDS is one information source; the actual activity, risk assessment and competent review determine the instruction approved for your workplace.
Frequently asked questions
Are collective operating instructions allowed for similar acids?
TRGS 555 permits group instructions for substances with comparable properties and protective measures (e.g. inorganic acids of similar concentration). A competent person must assess whether a group instruction is appropriate for your activities and protective measures.
What must an operating instruction contain?
Section 14 GefStoffV specifies substance and hazard information, protective measures, and responses to incidents and emergencies. TRGS 555 explains the structure, including work area and activity, first aid and disposal. The workplace risk assessment determines the specific content.
Is one operating instruction per substance group enough?
Group instructions may be suitable where hazards and protective measures are comparable. Check the risk assessment and TRGS 555 to determine whether a shared instruction covers the actual activities.
