How TRGS 555 connects with other rules
TRGS 555 concretizes §14 GefStoffV (information and instruction). It is supplemented by DGUV Information 213-016 (creating operating instructions) and DGUV Regulation 1 (general regulations).
For CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic) TRGS 905 + 906 additionally apply. CMR hazards and protective measures require competent assessment.
For activities with biological agents, BioStoffV with TRBA 100 ff. additionally applies – this is outside the MeineGBU scope (hazardous substances).
MeineGBU prepares an editable DOCX draft on the MeineGBU platform. The SDS is one information source; the actual activity, risk assessment and competent review determine the instruction approved for your workplace.
Frequently asked questions
When was TRGS 555 last updated?
BAuA lists TRGS 555 as the February 2017 edition, announced on 20 April 2017. Check the current official source and applicability to your activity; automatic legal updates of your document are not promised.
What must an operating instruction contain?
Section 14 GefStoffV specifies substance and hazard information, protective measures, and responses to incidents and emergencies. TRGS 555 explains the structure, including work area and activity, first aid and disposal. The workplace risk assessment determines the specific content.
Is one operating instruction per substance group enough?
Group instructions may be suitable where hazards and protective measures are comparable. Check the risk assessment and TRGS 555 to determine whether a shared instruction covers the actual activities.
Who signs the operating instruction?
The employer or a designated responsible person (e.g. managing director, workshop manager, occupational safety specialist). The signature confirms the binding nature of the instruction.
